Sebtus Academy turns years of practical experience into clear, hands-on education for poodle and oodle families. The aim is to help people care for coats confidently, understand behaviour and build routines that work in everyday family life.

Education is practical, respectful and adaptable, including for neurodivergent children, adults and households.

We welcome enquiries from owners in Kyneton, Woodend, the wider Macedon Ranges and Bendigo. Session locations and dates are agreed before booking; please enquire before making travel plans.

Groom Your Own Dog

$325 per owner and dog

A five-hour workshop, including breaks, for approved Toy, Miniature and similarly sized poodles and oodles.

  • Coat assessment, brushing and combing
  • Bathing, drying and safe tool handling
  • Hygiene and introductory clipping, as appropriate
  • Equipment and products to use in class
  • A personal home coat-care plan and one follow-up email within 14 days

Learning that respects your dog

We assess coat condition, health, size and comfort with handling before accepting a booking. Breaks and your dog's wellbeing come first; a completed groom is not guaranteed. This is education for owners, not a professional grooming qualification. Equipment is provided for use during the workshop, not as a take-home kit.

Have a Standard Poodle or a larger coat to manage? Ask about a two-part intensive with time for coat preparation and finishing. Prefer shorter sessions or a quieter setting? Tell us what helps you learn. A split-session or private option is quoted separately.

Training and family support

Small steps towards easier everyday life

Choose a focused session for settling and home routines, everyday training foundations, or cooperative grooming and handling. We begin with what is happening at home and agree practical goals, session length and a quote before you commit.

Support is open to Sebtus families and other dog owners. You do not need to purchase a poodle from us to learn with us, and no puppy application fee applies to Academy enquiries.

For our Sebtus families, the relationship continues after your dog comes home. You can contact us for guidance as they grow. Structured workshops and private lessons are optional paid services, with their scope explained in advance.

Questions about learning to groom your own dog

Can I attend if my dog did not come from Sebtus?

Yes. Sebtus Academy welcomes suitable poodles and oodles from other breeders and homes. You do not need to apply for a puppy or pay a puppy application fee.

Do I need grooming experience or my own equipment?

The introductory workshop is for owners building their skills. Equipment and products are available to use during the class. We help you understand what is useful for your own dog's coat before you buy tools for home.

What if my dog is anxious or has a matted coat?

Tell us before booking. We assess whether a group, private session or professional grooming appointment is the appropriate first step. Your dog's comfort comes before completing a groom.

Where are workshops held?

Sebtus Academy is based in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria. The exact venue and date are confirmed before booking. We welcome enquiries from Kyneton, Woodend, Bendigo and surrounding areas.

Will I be able to replace every professional groom?

The aim is to build safe, practical skills and a manageable home routine. What you can do at home depends on your confidence, your dog's coat and their comfort with handling. Some tasks may still need an experienced groomer.
